Ok, I know the word “unique” has been used extensively (but not excessively) with regard to music and style in various posts here – but I believe V.I.C. music absolutely deserves it, if not defines it. This five member experimental psychedelic/rock band from Ioannina City (Greece) play a rare mix of greek traditional folk with post, psychedelic, prog rock, both fascinating and unprecedented.
Post Rock
Sleepin Pillow – Superman’s blues
AudioA more gloomy feeling and “thick”, heavier atmosphere than its predecessor – after all its superman’s blues – it still carries over the band’s special character and gripping sound. Add to this moments of sheer sentiment-soaked ingenuity (as in “A big circle” to name just one) and you get something of a “Masterpiece” (to name another).
Lemonostifel – Lemonostifel 2
AudioLemonostifel’s second release continues and flourishes on the special fertile ground of their previous album. This band of friends have cultivated a truly special blend of sounds & inspiration that stands true to their statement of “psychological support with deep understanding”. The perfect album to start your day with, or to unwind ones troubled mind – with its nourishing and soothing (yet not always meek) sounds.
Dozen Draft – Hands
AudioStraight out of cosmic archives, this brilliant gem and its creator (Babis Bozoglou) contains some of the most inventive and unique fusion pieces of music I’ve heard lately (yes I know this sounds risky, I do mean it though). A contemporary phychedelic fest of folk melodies, african rythms & swirling electric sounds we are all invited to. The only thing I regret is not having heard of Dozen Draft and this album before.
Sigmatropic – Dead Computer Blues
AudioOne of the best known around the world greek alternative rock scene bands, in what in my opinion is one of the best (if not the best) album in their 18year music career. The album raises questions but also yearns for a future once dreamed.
Hope springs eternal – Supernova
Audio“Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never Is, but always To be blest.
The soul, uneasy, and confin’d from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.”
― Alexander Pope, An Essay on Man
Supernova is a collection of diverse material produced over the last three years, ranging from electronic to post-rock and psychedelia.
Electric Litany – How To Be A Child & Win The War
AudioThe debut of Electric Litany never ceases to trigger deep sentiments and a specific mood whenever I listen to it. It isn’t easy to describe its eerie & melancholic atmosphere so I’ll borrow the phrase another reviewer used that always since I read seemed most appropriate “Dreams scented with rain”.
